The Health Benefits of Geranium Oil

Posted by Rose Cox Leave a Comment

Geranium oil

Geranium oil has a beautiful fragrant scent making it a great addition to your essential oil collection. It is a very versatile essential oil and is one of the best essential oils to have around your home.

Aside from its fragrance, it also has a lot of health benefits, such as improving your skin’s condition and helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite. It is also good for treating depression as well as balancing your hormones.

The oil is extracted from the leaves of the geranium or pelargonium flower. The plant is popularly known to treat clean cuts. It has a very light floral scent which tends to linger making it very useful as an uplifting air freshener.

Here are a couple of ideas on how to use Geranium oil:

To Improve Skin Conditions

To help improve your skin condition, mix a few drops of geranium essential oil with 3 tablespoons of jojoba oil. Massage this blend into your skin to treat dry, oily or combination skins. This blend will also help to treat burns, frostbite as well as acne. This is due to its antiseptic properties, and not only does it help heal, but it also helps in preventing infection.

Balances Hormones

Geranium essential oil is very helpful for females who suffer from hormonal imbalances. It can be used to treat PMS symptoms, menstrual cramps as well as menopause symptoms. You can add a few drops of Geranium to a diffuser or a vaporizer or pour a couple of drops onto a cotton ball and gently inhale. For those suffering from menstrual cramps, try massaging a few drops of Geranium oil blended in a tablespoon of carrier oil to the affected areas. If massage is too painful, add some drops of the oil to a warm compress and then cover the abdomen in order to ease any pain.
