Aromatherapy Courses

Aromatherapy Course

There are many aromatherapy courses available, both through distance learning as well as classes and practical tuition. It’s important to understand the difference between some of the aromatherapy courses that are offered, and how and why they vary.

If you choose to undertake an aromatherapy course through distance learning there are many advantages. You can study in your own time, at your own pace, and in the comfort of your own home. The costs of these aromatherapy courses are usually only a fraction of the cost of a face-to-face class.

Aromatherapy courses, in a class situation are also a wonderful way to learn and the main drawback of these are the costs involved. There is also travel to consider if you don’t live near a suitable college.

When researching into online, as well as face-to-face aromatherapy courses to find the one most suitable for you, there are a number of things you should look for.

The person offering the course should be a fully qualified aromatherapist themselves. It is preferable that the course is recognized by one of the leading aromatherapy associations, such as the International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA), or the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA).

The syllabus should include topics such as the history of aromatherapy, in depth profiling of a number of essential oils, the benefits and application of aromatherapy treatments, essential oils chemistry, safety precautions, methods of extraction, the sense of smell, carrier oils and blending.

A good understanding of how to run your own aromatherapy practice, business ethics and client consultation should also be included in the syllabus of all good aromatherapy courses.

Learning and mastering the various massage techniques is, of course, extremely important and often a classroom setting and practical tuition is the best option for this part of it.

Anatomy and physiology knowledge is imperative, as you will need a thorough understanding of the human body to practice aromatherapy. Distance learning for this part of it is perfect, as anatomy and physiology is all theory based.
