Coriander

Coriander

Botanical name: Coriandrum Sativum
Botanical family: Umbelliferae

Part of plant used: Seeds

Origin: Coriander originates from Europe, particularly France and Spain, as well as Russia. It is distinguished by its ability to become acclimatized in temperate countries.

Description: Sweet and spicy

History: This ancient oil was found in the pyramids of Egypt with the mummies and was said to have been grown in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The Egyptians introduced Coriander to Europe in the 18th century and it was cultivated in the region of Paris.

Properties and Indications:

  • Carminative – excessive gaseous states and stomach cramps
  • Appetite stimulant
  • Anti-sudorific – helps decrease sweating
  • Stimulates the spleen and liver
  • Said to be good for vertigo
  • Can help with halitosis

Personality:

  • Masculine but sensuous
  • Cephalic – sharpens the senses
  • Works on the nervous system
  • Can help ground someone who has excess libido – puts them more in touch with their body on a sensuous side
  • For people who over intellectualize
  • Sensing and perceiving
  • Warming and comforting
  • Helps dark moods and coldness towards others
  • For people who worry to much

  • Aniseed, Anise-Star, Bay, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Cumin, Dill, Geranium, Ginger, Lemon, Myrtle, Neroli, Niaouli, Nutmeg, Orange, Rosewood
